Aegeriried Alluvial Zone, Canton Schwyz

The Aegeriried alluvial zone, shared between Cantons Schwyz and Zug, is included on the federal inventory of alluvial zones of national importance. An alluvial zone is an area of transition between water and land. These zones are extremely important habitats for wildlife and vegetation. The zones in the inventory cover about a quarter of one per cent of the total surface area of Switzerland, but are home to 40% of the country's plant species.
