Cobblestone, Baden, Aargau
The cobblestones in the Kronengasse in the old part of Baden were made from stones probably taken from the bed of the Limmat, which flows through the town. Many of them came originally from the Alps. This green stone with pale flecks is an igneous rock (gabbro) from the area of the Julier Pass in Canton Graubünden. It was probably transported from there by the Rhine-Linth glacier as far as Killwangen, a few kilometers upstream from Baden and then carried further by the Limmat.
