Sweet loaves sold during the Gansabhauet festival in Sursee

Martinsbrot, Sursee, Canton Lucerne

Martinsbrot, or St Martin's Bread, is a speciality associated with the Gansabhauet custom in Sursee, held annually on St Martin's Day, November 11th. The sun decoration recalls the huge mask worn by competitors trying to behead the goose in the town square. The bread is sweet, containing dried and candied fruit.
