The Aletsch glacier with a field of alpenroses

Aletsch Glacier, Valais (3)

The Aletsch, on the borders of Cantons Bern and Valais is Europe's largest glacier. The Jungfrau-Aletsch-Bietschorn region was added to the UNESCO list of world heritage sites in 2001. The alpenrose, a kind of rhododendron, is a much-loved mountain plant.
