
Leibstadt Nuclear Power Station, Aargau
The Leibstadt nuclear power station stands on the bank of the Rhine, close to the German border. It came into operation in 1984, and is the biggest of Switzerland's five nuclear power stations, with a capacity of 1165 MW. It produces more than 9,000 million kilowatt hours annually. Nuclear energy is Switzerland's second major electricity source, with five stations accounting for about 40% of the country's output.
