The Albbruck-Dogern power station on the Rhine

Albbruck-Dogern Power Station, Aargau (2)

The Albbruck-Dogern run of river power station straddles the Rhine between Switzerland and Germany, a few kilometers below the point where the Rhine's flow is increased by the confluence of the Aare. It produces an average of 569 million kw hours of power annually. The station has been in operation since 1929, but has drastically lowered the water level downstream, which has damaged the ecology of the river. Its concession was renewed in 2003 for another 70 years, but on condition that more water is let through.
