Unspunnen, Canton Bern
The ruins of the Unspunnen castle lie between Interlaken and Wilderswil. The round keep probably dates back to the early 12th century, but during the course of its history the castle was enlarged several times, until it was abandoned in the early 16th century and allowed to fall into ruin. The castle became nationally famous in 1805 with the first Unspunnen games, a display of traditional sports designed to heal the rift between city and rural areas.
