A burst of fireworks on Swiss national day

Swiss National Day (3)

The Swiss celebrate their national day on August 1st. The day was chosen because August 1st 1291 was the date on which three Alpine cantons swore the oath of confederation, an act which later came to be regarded as the foundation of Switzerland. Fireworks are a highpoint of the celebrations, let off privately or in public displays.
