The Culture and Convention Centre - known by its German initials as KKL - was built by the French architect Jean Nouvel. Construction started in 1995, and the first concert was held there in 1998, but it was not fully opened until 2000. Numerous conventions and concerts are held there throughout the year. Its concert hall is known for its excellent acoustics. It also houses Lucerne's Art Museum.
