Elisabeth Kübler-Ross (1926 - 2004) was a doctor and psychiatrist. She found international renown with her book "On Death and Dying", which appeared in 1969.

Her work did much to de-stigmatise the subject of dying, and to consider the treatment of the terminally ill.

Kübler Ross, one of triplets, was born in Zurich. She graduated from the Medical School at the University of Zurich in 1957 and left for the US the following year, where she remained for the rest of her life. She wrote more than twenty books on the subject of death and received over twenty honorary degrees. A film, "Facing Death", consisting of conversations with Kübler-Ross herself and interviews with friends and colleagues, was produced in 2002.
