Winter sports

Sledging on the Engstligenalp

With the arrival of the first snow of the season, people everywhere are dusting down their skis, toboggans and snowboards, and heading for the mountains. If this sounds like too much hard work, then simply rent your equipment in the resort itself. Alternatively, why not check out one of the many open-air ice rinks in a town or village near you?

Switzerland is synonymous with winter sports. There is also a separate article with all you need to know about the history of ice hockey in Switzerland. How many Swiss sports stars can you name? Check out some of Switzerland’s leading sports stars.

Online civics quiz - a swissworld.org first

Test your civic knowledge

Our partner portal www.ch.ch has put together a great interactive civics quiz. You can now download the quiz widget to your desktop.

When was the first-ever Federal Councillor from the Social Democrats elected? What is the point of a popular referendum? What is meant by majority vote and proportionality? What is the magic formula? Think you know the answers? Then, why not download the widget and put your knowledge of Swiss politics to the test. You can even install the widget on your own site. There really is nothing to it. But if you would like more help, you’ll find lots of useful tips here.
