Dear readers
After a long and snowy winter, it seems like spring is finally here: flowers are coming into bud and the trees are slowly leafing out. The swissworld.org team decided the moment was right for a little spring cleaning of its own!
To celebrate the long-awaited arrival of spring, we have decided to give the swissworld.org website a fresh lick of red paint! That’s not all – we’ve been hard at work on the “swissQuiz”. Simply click on the banner to take part in this great new online competition. A Swiss Gift Set could be winging its way to you this summer. But you’ve got to be in it to win it!
How much do you actually know about Switzerland? Whether you are already an expert or simply would like to find out more about Switzerland in all its diversity, check out the swissQuiz!
swissQuiz is an online crossword puzzle that puts your general knowledge of Switzerland to the test. All you have to do is solve the clues and send us the completed crossword. If you are stuck on any clue, take a look round the swissworld.org website to find the answer. You never know, you could be one of the lucky winners of a customised “Swiss Gift Set”, delivered straight to your door.
There are five types of “Swiss Gift Set” to choose from, and all winners will be notified by email at the end of June.

When you ask people what they associate with Switzerland, at least one of these five words is sure to crop up. This is why the swissworld.org website has a special section which has everything you ever wanted to know (and more!) about Swiss mountains, Swiss chocolate, Swiss trains, Swiss cheese and Swiss bread.
How many records can the Swiss Alps lay claim to? What Swiss cheese always comes in a small round pine box? Did you know that heavy goods vehicles can cross from one end of Switzerland to the other by train without ever having to set a wheel on Swiss soil? When did postcards become popular in Switzerland?
The answers to these questions and lots more fascinating facts can be found in our updated Swiss Specials:
Mountains
Chocolate
Bread
Cheese
Trains
But what about watches, we hear you say? Don’t worry - the best comes to those who wait. If everything runs like clockwork, you’ll only have to wait until the end of April to discover the updated fact file on Swiss watchmaking. So, remember the date – a return visit to swissorld.org will definitely not be a waste of your valuable time!
The rasp of razor-sharp blades over the glistening ice, the crack of sticks, the whoosh of the puck, and maybe the odd black eye… These are just some of the sights and sounds to be expected during the 2009 Ice Hockey World Championships, to be held in Berne and Zurich-Kloten. From April 24 to May 10, teams from 16 nations will battle it out during a total of 56 games in the hope of being crowned the best ice hockey team in the world.
