2008 marks 60 years of friendship between India and Switzerland.

In 1947 India declared its independence. One year later, Switzerland and India signed a Treaty of Friendship. Later, in the mid-1950s, Swiss firms began to invest in the country; Swiss development cooperation would follow soon after. 1991 saw the emergence of the Indian economy on the world market. Today, India remains one of Switzerland’s most important economic partners in Asia.

Switzerland and all things Swiss are now also instantly accessible to the wider Indian public thanks to its growing popularity with the booming Indian film industry. Featuring backdrops such as Bellinzona castle or the Kleine Scheidegg mountain pass with its breathtaking views of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau mountains, Bollywood films are a perfect showcase for all that Switzerland has to offer.
