Tom (Thomas) Lüthi (born 6 September 1986) began his motosport career at the tender age of nine, successfully competing in pocket bike races. In 2005 he won the 125cc World Championship in Valencia, becoming the sixth youngest winner of all time – a dream come true for the young man from Emmental. Lüthi is the first Swiss world champion in the sport for 20 years; Stefan Dörflinger last won the 80cc world championship in 1985.
In 2007, Lüthi switched to the higher 250cc class. At the end of the 2009 season, he was ranked seventh in the world. He continued to compete in the 250cc class until 2010, when he moved to motosport’s top flight, the MotoGP.
Awards
- In 2005 Tom Lüthi was voted Swiss Sportsman of the Year and won a "Swiss Award" in recognition of his achievements on the race track.
