Switzerland is famous for its music festivals, ranging from classical to rock.

Annual classical music festival highlights include the Lucerne festivals in Easter and summer, the Ascona Music Festival in summer, the Menuhin Festival in Gstaad and Snow and Symphony in the resort of St Moritz.

The summer sees a series of open-air air rock and pop festivals which attract fans from home and abroad. They include St Gallen, Montreux, the Gurten in Bern, Paléo, Rock Oz'Arènes in Avenches and the Montreux Jazz Festival.

Even the winter has an open-air rock concert: the SnowpenAir on the Kleine Scheidegg in the Bernese Oberland.

Switzerland has many hundreds of amateur brass bands and concert bands. They may be organised at town or village level, or by job-related associations. They often perform in the street during festivals or competitions.
